FAQs

Accessibility for Passengers with Restricted Mobility Traveling to/from Sark

Q1: What should I expect in terms of boarding the boat in Guernsey and arriving at Sark with restricted mobility?

Guernsey's tidal range of 33 feet is one of the largest in the world, transforming the coastline every 6 hours or so. The incline from the quayside to the pontoon can sometimes be very steep, which can be challenging for persons with reduced mobility. It is advisable to check the height of the tide prior to booking. Once on the pontoon to board the boat involves walking up 2 steps.

Upon arriving in Sark, you will face steps from the boat to the quayside, the number of which depends on the tidal range at the time. Sark Harbour does not have a ramp, only steps.

Q2: How can I arrange for the necessary assistance upon arrival in Sark?

To arrange for assistance, please contact:

Sark Visitor Centre 01481 832345 (Sark arrivals/departures).

Provide them with details of your visit and the specific assistance you require. It’s essential to do this at least one week in advance of your trip to ensure that arrangements can be made to accommodate your needs.

Q3: Will there be any additional costs for arranging assistance due to restricted mobility?

Yes, arranging for assistance due to restricted mobility will incur a charge. Please contact the Sark Visitor Centre for more detailed information on the costs involved.

Q4: Can wheelchairs be accommodated on the boat?

Our boats have limited space, and while we can accommodate folding wheelchairs, we will not be able to accommodate larger electric wheelchairs or scooters.

Q5: Are there any specific boarding times for passengers with restricted mobility?

We recommend that passengers with restricted mobility arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. This extra time helps ensure a smooth and unhurried boarding process. Please check in with our staff upon arrival, so we can assist you as efficiently as possible.

Sark Mobility Scooters: A limited number of mobility scooters are available to pre-book for visitors with a certified medical condition requiring the use of a scooter. There are only 3 scooters available and the application takes time to process so advanced booking is essential. Please contact the Sark Visitor Centre for more information.
