Luggage and ticketing procedures for visitors staying on Sark.
Luggage and ticketing procedures for visitors staying on Sark.
The Isle of Sark Shipping Company Ltd (IOSS) hopes that you will have an enjoyable and relaxing holiday on Sark.
Please take a few moments to acquaint yourself with the following luggage and ticketing procedures for passengers travelling from Guernsey to Sark;
If you have booked your ferry ticket online or through a travel Agency, please go into the IOSS ticket office situated at White Rock, St Peter Port, Guernsey at least 25 minutes prior to your sailing time and exchange your booking confirmation for a valid boarding card. Passengers should arrive at the departure point at least 15 minutes before the scheduled sailing time and you cannot board the ferry unless you hold a valid boarding card issued by the Company.
IOSS provides an unmanned left luggage facility on the Inter Island Quay in Guernsey. This facility is free of charge for passengers in transit to and from Sark and all luggage placed in the IOSS left luggage facility is left at the owners risk.
Items left in the left luggage store are NOT automatically loaded onto the ferry. Please take your luggage to the pontoon with you. If you need assistance, please ask a member of the quay staff who will assist.
It is very important that your luggage is clearly labelled with your name plus the name and address of the accommodation that you are staying at on Sark.
Bearing in mind that luggage is 'manhandled' on a number of occasions, for Health & Safety Executive (HSE) purposes IOSS operates a single bag weight policy of 15kg. If your bag weighs more than 15kg you may be asked to load the bag onto and off the ferry yourself.
When your ferry arrives at the Sark Quay, please disembark the ferry leaving only your hold luggage on the ferry, the crew will off load your hold baggage (ruck sacs, shopping bags and consumables must be carried off by yourselves, these can be handed to your designated Carter on the quay) The proprietor of your accomodation on Sark will have automatically arranged with their Carter for your labelled hold luggage to be unloaded from the ferry and transported from the harbour to your accomodation.
When you have disembarked the ferry, please immediately proceed through the tunnel to the waiting area for the Harbour Hill Bus. The Harbour Hill Bus will take you to the top of the hill at a cost of £1.50 for adults and 60p for children.
At busy times there can be a wait for the Harbour Hill Bus and as an alternative there is a pleasant woodland path for you to walk along and which also takes you to the top of the Harbour Hill. The entrance to the path is located approximately 200 metres up the Harbour Hill on the left hand side. Please be aware that the Harbour Hill and path are approximately 1km long and cover a rise of approximately 120 metres. Please note that only small items of personal hand luggage will be carried on the Harbour Hill transport, they will not transport suitcases, large holdalls, camping equipment or other large items.
Please do not be alarmed if your luggage takes a while to arrive at your accommodation, this is Sark and rest assured that it will arrive.
DEPARTING SARK
Please ensure that the proprietor of your Sark accommodation arranges for their Carter to collect your luggage and load it onto the ferry on which you are returning to Guernsey. It is important that your luggage is clearly labelled with your name and the time of your ferry sailing to Guernsey, plus the words 'TO GUERNSEY'.
The last Harbour Hill bus departs from the top of Harbour Hill 30 mins before each sailing.
On arrival back in Guernsey please wait on the pontoon for your hold luggage to be unloaded from the ferry and passed to you on the pontoon (ruck sacs, shopping bags and consumables must be carried off by yourselves). If you require assistance, please ask one of the quay hands who will assist.
When returning to Guernsey, should you wish to leave your luggage in the IOSS left luggage facility please feel free to do so but remember that luggage left here is at owners risk.
The IOSS left luggage facility closes and is locked when the last boat of the day from Sark arrives back in Guernsey.
