Walking

Sark is an island of natural, rugged beauty where the grassy cliffs plummet into the clear blue ocean below and sea birds soar above your head. There are no cars, just peace and tranquility. Areas of the island have been internationally protected due to the rarity of the species who inhabit the headland and caves. It comes alive with the colour of wild flowers from Spring onwards and has an interesting geology and a tempestuous early history.

There are many places to explore: the issue is where to start. With many of the coastal paths accessible only on foot, why not let one of Sark’s experienced guides show you around and tell you all about the various aspects of this paradise of nature.

These include a number of themed walks and, for the October Sark Walking Week, three new routes and one old favourite, walks that showcase the grandeur of Sark’s coastal scenery.

Most of the walks are off road so suitable footwear is needed. Also advisable is a waterproof jacket and a bottle of water. Most walks include some terrain on the edge but no scrambling.

All walks begin at The Visitor Centre in The Avenue except for those in Little Sark which start outside La Sablonnerie Tea Gardens. The walks take about 2.5 hours.

Pre booking through Sark Tourism is recommended for all walks and imperative for those in Little Sark.

Families welcome. Come and explore the shore at low tide and discover the weird and wonderful creatures and plants which are specially adapted to the environment.

Strong and waterproof footwear is essential. Bring a net and bucket if you have one. Children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Pre-booking required. Minimum of 4 adults needed for the walk to take place. £4 per adult. £2 per child.

Sark Guided Walks

CHOICE OF WALKS

The island is too big to see in one day so there are three different walks to choose from: the North, the South and the Mid Island Walk. Each walk is taken at a relaxed pace and is designed to highlight and admire the beauty of the island. Beth is mindful that this is your holiday and as such believes that you should be able to walk as much or as little as you choose. For that reason there are various opt-out points along each walk so that you can choose when you wish to stop. Just let Beth know and, at the next available opt-out point, she will direct you to the nearest restaurant or The Avenue (the main street at the top of Harbour Hill).

On each walk you will be shown coastlines of outstanding natural beauty and places of historical interest. You will learn about the island’s past, it’s occupation and government over the centuries.

There are set days for each of the three walks. The cost of which is £16 per person with an option to order a packed lunch for an additional £8.

Group or private bookings need to be arranged separately by email or telephone so that a day can be put aside to guide your party. The walk can then be tailored according to your individual requirements.
